Father
Shri P. P. Thambi (Thaniniram Thambi)
Shri P. P. Thambi, father of Dr. Praveen G Thambi, was a respected politician, social worker, journalist, and entrepreneur whose life was dedicated to the welfare of society. He was a fearless voice for the rights of tea plantation workers, and his uncompromising journalism through Thaniniram newspaper earned him the popular title “Thaniniram Thambi.” In recognition of his bold reporting, he was honored as the Best News Reporter in Kerala (1975).
As a state leader of the Socialist Republican Party (SRP) and the SRTUC trade union, Shri P. P. Thambi emerged as a prominent figure in Idukki district’s tea plantation workers’ movement. His leadership and advocacy strengthened the struggles of marginalized labor communities and gave them a strong voice in Kerala’s socio-political landscape.
Alongside his political and journalistic contributions, he was also a successful businessman, running restaurants, and an award-winning cardamom farmer, recognized by the State Government for excellence in agriculture.
He shared his life with his beloved wife Smt. Sarasamma Thambi, and together they raised a family rooted in values of service and integrity. They are blessed with three children: Naveen G Thambi (eldest son), Dr. Praveen G Thambi (second son), and Smitha G Thambi (daughter).
Shri P. P. Thambi passed away in 2013, leaving behind a legacy of fearless leadership, uncompromising journalism, and tireless dedication to social causes. His life continues to inspire his family and the community he served.
Mother
Smt. Sarasamma Thambi, wife of late Shri P. P. Thambi, was born into an affluent family in Muthukulam, Kayamkulam. She pursued her education at Balikamatham High School, one of the most prestigious schools and colleges in Thiruvalla, which shaped her strong values, refined outlook, and resilience.
Married to Shri P. P. Thambi, a respected politician, social worker, journalist, and businessman, Sarasamma stood as a pillar of strength and unwavering support throughout his dynamic career and social life. Behind his fearless journalism and public service was her quiet determination, which kept the family united and grounded.
As a devoted mother, she dedicated herself to raising their three children — Naveen G Thambi, Dr. Praveen G Thambi, and Smitha G Thambi — instilling in them discipline, compassion, and ambition. Her role in balancing the responsibilities of family, household, and social commitments was vital in shaping their paths.
Today, Sarasamma Thambi is known as a landowner in Elappara, continuing the family’s legacy of responsibility, tradition, and social presence. Respected by her community, she remains a symbol of grace, resilience, and strength, embodying the values of her heritage while carrying forward her late husband’s legacy.
